The Importance of Being a Go-getter

Written by Jayne Chase, 2023 Emerald Award Palm Beach Go-getter awardee

I am so honored to receive the Go-Getter Emerald Award from Girl Scouts. Not only am I grateful to be recognized by my friends who I respect deeply and who have received similar awards from Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, but I am truly honored I am in a position in my life to give back and share my message and my experience with younger girls.

I was lucky enough to have women who came before me who set an example for hard work, perseverance and determination to never give up. Some of these women I met in my professional life were determined to push their way into the executive suites. Others like my mother, Henny Mindlin, and the woman who raised my brother and me, Mary Smith, constantly preached the importance of working hard. Although both women had different life experiences and opportunities available to them, they were both determined to make sure I knew how to take care of myself, take charge when it was necessary, recognize opportunities, and the importance of being a strong woman in a man’s world.

Although times have changed and more equality exists for women, particularly in the working world, it is important now, more than ever, for women to know their value and the need for their contribution to the world stage. Leadership and passion are essential to our path as we continue to push forward, making in-roads in all areas. Each girl’s dream, their life mission no matter how big or small, is crucial in someone else’s life. We never know how our message can impact another person or what small child is watching closely as we weave along our own journey.

I am motivated by these women and by those who continue to do what they love and know in their hearts they “belong in the room.” As the host of the podcast and YouTube show, Perfectly Palm Beach, and someone who has been in the media world my whole career, I am influenced by women like CNBC Host, Andrea Mitchell, who continues to be an important voice on the world political stage, and Mika Brzezinski, who has built an entire global community to teach and empower women everywhere to know your value.

These ladies work harder and work smarter to continue to do what they love. That’s the message for all young girls to understand. Find what you love to do and do it well because it is only once you discover your place in the world that you truly find your own voice. It is this voice, your voice, that will make a difference.
