Girl Scouts partner with DoorDash to expand their cookie business

This year Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida has partnered with the DoorDash delivery service to get cookies delivered to customers across our six counties! This partnership allows customers to add on Girl Scout cookies to their current order and the Dasher will visit a local troop booth to purchase and deliver them. It’s a great feature for our customers and for the troops that have volunteered for this opportunity. So far, 30 unique troops from our council have sold over 5,209 boxes of cookies through the DoorDash app – that’s over $26,064 going directly back to troops and their goals! We still have one weekend left, lets hear from two troops taking advantage of this new sales tactic…

Troop 24114

Meet Maddi B. and Riss I. from Troop 24114 in our Sunchariot Service Unit. These two Girl Scouts have currently hosted four Door Dash booths, and have seen the benefits of this partnership first hand. Maddi is a Cadette Girl Scout and during one of her DoorDash booths (pictured above) her dad had to rush over with more cases of cookies because they were running out and still had 1.5 hours left! That night they sold over 100 boxes just through DoorDash alone. Riss is a Junior Girl Scout and her booth pictured above was themed for Valentine’s Day which she used as a marketing strategy.

Q: Why did you decide to ‘jump in’ and try to expand your Cookie Program with DoorDash this year?

Maddi: It was another way to make more sales and another resource to reach different clientele. Many walk-up customers were saying they were having a hard time finding the cookies. Don’t worry, we tell them about the cookie finder app. This platform allows the cookies to come to you.

Q: What are some specific things you really like about using the DoorDash tablet and/or selling cookies through DoorDash?

Maddi: The platform was simple to read. It was easy to know the difference between when a new order came in, rather than the alert of a dasher arriving, and the tablet is easy to carry around.

Q: What about the Dashers – what was their impression of this new partnership?

Maddi: Some were surprised that DoorDash was an option for cookies. A couple of the Dashers bought their own cookies, too. Another Dasher thought that it was smart to give a receipt and have them sign for the pickup.

Q: Is there anything else you would share with other Girl Scout troops about your first DoorDash experience?

Maddi: DoorDash is an additional service to add to your business strategy, but it definitely requires two people that can work independently. I would highly recommend this option for older Girl Scouts.

Troop 10610

Meet Cadence S. a Senior Girl Scout from Troop 10610 from the Hibiscus Service Unit and her mom/troop leader Michelle. Cadence held one of their DoorDash booths on Super Bowl Sunday and used creative marketing to leverage in-person sales. They created stickers representing both teams and placed them on the cookie boxes to attract customers.

Q: Why did you decide to ‘jump in’ and expand your Cookie Program with DoorDash this year?

Michelle: We wanted to grow our sales using DoorDash especially after seeing their market share compared to Grubhub. We had moderate success with Grubhub last year and thought that Doordash would be much more successful and so far, it has been a great partnership!

Q: What are some specific things you really like about using the DoorDash tablet and/or selling cookies through DoorDash?

Michelle: It is exciting for us to hear the new order dinging on the tablet! My daughter really enjoys writing the receipt, bagging the order, and giving them a Thank you card.

Q: Do you have any specific goals for your DoorDash sales?

Michelle: Our goal with DoorDash was to supplement our booth sales. My daughter has been a CEO Extreme team seller for the last seven years, so every box of cookies sold helps!

Q: What about the Dashers – what was their impression of this new partnership?

Michelle: The Dashers have been really nice and some have admitted that they were initially confused when they saw a pick up for Girl Scout Cookies.

Q: Is there anything else you would share with other Girl Scout troops about your first DoorDash experience?

Michelle: We have had some technical issues – from pricing to assigning a Dasher – but the DoorDash staff have been super helpful and very nice.
