Did you know that your girl can participate as a Girl Scout on her own? While troops are an important part of Girl Scouting, and they provide an awesome sisterhood for your girl, they aren’t the end of her Girl Scout experience. Just because you are part of a troop doesn’t mean your girl can’t branch off on her own to participate in the many council and national programs available to her. Especially now that so many programs have gone virtual!
For many girls, as they get older their interests will change, and while she has grown with their troop your girl might be looking for more than what her leader can provide. Is your girl interested in camping? Science? Leadership? There may be opportunities available to her that you’re just not aware of. That’s where we want to help! Here are three easy ways to learn more about programs available for your Girl Scout:

1. Check the Events Listing on gssef.org. This is a great way to search for local events by grade-level or category. As a parent you can register your girl for these events on your own by logging into your MyGS account. Individual families can register for Girl Scout programs anytime – just as our troops can. There are hundreds of Girl Scout activities that you can register and do with your girl nearly every weekend of the year – based on her individual interests – even when her troop isn’t attending!

2. Join your Service Unit’s Facebook Group or Follow GSSEF’s Facebook Page. Most Service Unit’s in our council have their own group on Facebook. In these groups you can find out about local events happening in your area and connect with volunteers and other troops to see what they are up too. Take it a step further, and follow our council’s page on Facebook to learn about what’s going on at council, learn about events and programs, see what troops are doing across our council, and more.
Not sure what service unit you are in? Reach out to your troop leader or contact our customer care team at customercare@gssef.org and they can help you out.

3. Read GSSEF’s monthly Trefoil Talk e-newsletter. This is an email sent the second Wednesday of each month that includes upcoming program information, adult resources, council news, and more! Are you not receiving Trefoil Talk? The newsletter is sent to the email attached to your MyGS account – you can update it through your MyGS or contact our customer care team and they can help.
Does your older girl want to start getting council news to her email? No problem! Just update the email address on her account and she will start getting GSSEF news directly.

Bonus Tip: Check out GSUSA’s Virtual Events Calendar where you can see what virtual events are available to you nationwide! This is a unique time to be a Girl Scout, so why not take advantage of all the opportunities available for your girl at home. GSUSA has created an easy to use calendar that offers virtual programs from councils across the United States for coding, yoga, photography, stress management, space science, and so much more!
Remember, just because your troop isn’t participating in a council event doesn’t mean your girl can’t participate on her own! With more and more virtual events being created each day, this is a great time for your girl to branch out and explore programs that interest her.
