The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we all do things to try to continue on as normal as possible before we began social distancing. From virtual troop meetings to virtual field trips, our Girl Scouts are getting it done and not letting anything get between them and Girl Scouting! Our council has also had to adapt and change how we provide the best Girl Scout experience to our members. One of the ways we are doing that is by bringing our biggest signature events into your home!
That’s right, big council event favorites like Journey in a Day and Fall Into Girl Scouting have gone virtual. We have even added a new one-time signature event to commemorate 100 years since the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment called Centennial of Suffrage! We hope you will join us for each of these incredible programs from the comfort and safety of your own home to round out your Girl Scout year, which ends every September 30.
Keep the leadership-building and grand adventures going by renewing your membership if you haven’t already because we have lots in store for you after October 1! Not already a member? Join now!

Join us August 1 – 31, 2020 to learn more about the historical importance of the suffrage movement that led to the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment and all the positive impacts women voters have had on society ever since. This virtual program can be done completely on your own over the course of the month of August by following a printable Activity Guide that will be provided to you, or you can log on to participate in guided activities August 4 – 6, where we will feature:
August 4:
- Susan B. Anthony (brought to life by Sheryl Faye) will perform and discuss the formation of the women’s suffrage movement
August 5:
- Katrina Long-Robinson, Vice Mayor for the City of Westlake, FL will discuss representation of Black and minority communities and their journey in the movement towards voting equality
- Commissioner Rita Barreto Craig of the Florida Commission on the Status of Women will discuss women’s rights today
August 6:
- Wendy Sartory Link, Supervisor of Elections for Palm Beach County, will discuss the importance of women voters and the impact women have in local communities
Upon completion of this program, girls of all grade levels will earn a limited edition patch commemorating the centennial of this great moment in history and a NEW Democracy badge just released by GSUSA (which means you could be one of the first ever to earn it!). Register now!

The Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey combines two things we know girls love: STEM and the Outdoors. Girls will learn how to use the scientific method by taking part in live experiments to practice making observations, collecting data, and asking questions about the natural world around them. The focus is the conservation of biodiversity; by the end of this program the girls will better understand their environment, the impact humans have on it, and inspire others to act with them as spokeswomen for the environment!
Girls will earn this Journey by completing three virtual sessions and by participating in a SciStarter Citizen Scientist Project, collating their data to be submitted to support research being completed by scientists at The California Academy of Sciences and UC Berkeley.
All components of the Journey are included in this program. The girls will complete a Take Action project with inspiration from organizations actively working to protect biodiversity including the Akron Zoo, John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, The Reef Institute, Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Lion Country Safari and more!
Dates:
- August 24: Introduction
- August 29: Live Event
- September 5: Follow-Up
Can’t join us on these dates? Not to worry! A recorded video of the session will be available to you that you can watch whenever is convenient. Girls will receive access to all PDF printable handouts and guides, videos, live event, live Take Action Project support, and the event patch:
Journey in a Day is presented by Publix Supermarkets Charities and powered by Florida Power and Light.

A new membership year is almost here and for GSSEF Girl Scouts, it’s full of leadership-developing, skill-building, female-empowering, STEM-exploring, and outdoor-adventuring potential! See what the next year has in store from our council for new and returning Girl Scouts in our virtual Fall Into Girl Scouting event. You’ll get to sample upcoming activities to help you plan for another incredible year filled with new exploration and adventure opportunities! You may even learn of opportunities you didn’t even know were available to you!
This virtual event experience on September 26 promises to be interactive and fun. You and your girl can tune in and out throughout the program as you please to hear from members of council staff about what most interests you. We will go over everything from earning high awards to camping, as well as programs for life-skill-building, entrepreneurship and money management, and unique offerings where your girl can flex her STEM muscles in programs dedicated to areas like engineering, marine biology, health science/wellness, and more!
You will also be able to interact and chat directly with our staff who will be able to answer all your questions. All registered members could even win free prizes in our chance drawings! Do you have a friend who isn’t a Girl Scout yet? Invite her to email customercare@gssef.org to register!
