This year, girls made history at the Broadcom MASTERS ( Math, Applied Science, Technology, and Engineering for Rising Stars) Competition, America’s most prestigious science and engineering competition for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. For the first time ever, all five of the top prize winners were girls! Not only that, but out of more than 2,000 applicants to enter the competition, only 30 were chosen – 18 females and 12 males – making it also the first time ever that the majority of competitors were girls. It’s clear we are reaching a turning point where we are finally getting closer to tightening the gender gap in all things STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
